View Full Version : The Hawk of New York

Hi all! I used to go by the moniker Lewmoxinsghost. Apparently everything I once held dear here has been erased, so I thought I'd post a brand new thread to begin the renewal process and keep folks abreast of my latest project, The Hawk of New York. Kindly watch this space, as I don't maintain a blog but this might serve as one in the coming months. Thanks! Oh and if you want to check out my store, you can look me up on Storenvy.

The title alone sounds interesting. I'll be looking forward to this.

Cool! Thanks a lot. I've been working on the marketing somewhat. Here is the one sentence summary:

On the verge of being kicked out of a corrupt orphanage and into a boot-camp-like juvenile delinquency program, Eric Warden, a half-Indian, half-white orphan with a mysterious past starts a fight and gets beaten up, but when Howard Olive, the school’s motorcycle-riding shop teacher, intervenes, Eric must learn how to channel his desire for anarchy towards more constructive ends before his entire future becomes as lost as his past.

I've written more standard promo stuff, which is supposed to titillate. I'd love any general advice from any indy veterans out there with this.

Murder, motorcycles, punk rock, and Indian magic abound; set in the 1980s fictional town of Mohawk Springs, NY, The Hawk of New York chronicles the coming of age of orphan Eric Warden. This story also features a star-studded soundtrack that has popular 1980s tunes covered by modern bands like Radio Cult, The Lost Boys, Pure Ed, October Layne, Immortal Soul as well as the artist himself (ahem, me) with many more! Reserve your copy today!

Another pretty special thing about this series is the great Groovy Gary Friedrich of Ghost Rider acclaim has granted me permission to use his likeness as one of the characters. Using his likeness as one of the character's makes sense since this series is in the outlaw genre and will eventually feature Eric as an anti-hero motorcycle avenging vigilante.

My big news as of late is that Ain't It Cool News reviewed it, and really seemed to get it. I've been on cloud 9 about it, actually. Here's a link to that review:

Since the other thread got deleted, I think I'll post some of the art from it here next.

I just got interviewed on the Earth Station One podcast. I've never done an interview before, so I said Uh and Um quite a bit and I think I managed to insult surgeons and people with thick southern accents everywhere, but I got through it. It was a good experience. Looking forward to the next opportunity to talk about Hawk of New York. If you go to around the 24:00 mark that is where my 15 minutes or so of infamy begins. Hope you like.

If you are looking to do an interview, I highly recommend getting in touch with the Mikes or Bobby. Great group of fellas.

I don't think I ever posted the trailer in CBR, so here it is. I'm working on a new one that includes the newer quotes and probably a different song snippet from the soundtrack.
Song is Breakin the Law by Judas Priest covered by my buds Immortal Soul.

Here's the latest promo I came up with for it.

Here's a pic from last weekend. I'm pleased to report that it was a record for me in terms of sales of the comic. I can't wait until the soundtrack is done so I can offer that as well!

I'm closing the gap with completing the compilation soundtrack CD which accompanies the comic, but I am still looking for one or two more songs. If there are any bands out there who can record quickly or who have already recorded some of the songs I'm looking for, please PM me. I'd love to get your band or talent on the project.

I am proud to announce that Latvian punk band Konservētie Stringi (roughly translated to the hilarious Canned G-String Panties) has officially joined the Hawk of New York soundtrack family! All of you should know their cover of Black Flag's Rise Above frankly sounds flat out amazing. I am still trying to figure out how I was able to pull in so much talent for my one little album project. I am inching closer and closer to production time! I am further set to record an all new theme song written by one of the best songwriters I have ever met. I can't post Rise Above here, but I'll post the original here soon! Getting totally amped! Are there any musicians out there reading this??

(Look them up on Facebook please, and me too while you're at it!)

Hey guys! If you are in the Charlotte area, come by the convention and hit my table AA 1915. I'll give anyone a discount who comes to my table and says "Storytelling by Any Means Necessary." :)

I'm close to releasing the CD. I'm currently designing the inner jacket, outer panel and the CD itself. Pretty excited overall. Quite frankly, it sounds amazing. A release party is being planned for August in Atlanta, GA. Would anyone reading this want to see the jacket design process as it happens, or do you just want to see the finished piece?

With everything that has been going on as I begin to promote myself in earnest as an artist, I've been working diligently on issue two. Currently halfway done with the art and will be posting a few teaser images from that soon. Stay tuned, and don't be afraid to comment in the thread. I'm open to your input.

Here's what is slated to become the back of the inside of the CD Soundtrack jacket. I'm pretty lucky to have gotten some many good bands involved. http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/Randylbishop/InsideCDArtV3_zps9926f2d4.jpg (http://s267.photobucket.com/user/Randylbishop/media/InsideCDArtV3_zps9926f2d4.jpg.html)

One of those artists is Celia Gary. She's totally rad- a beautiful singer in voice and appearance. Check out this song that is on the album: http://youtu.be/ROaD7JJDu4o

I did the Electric City Nerds podcast at Heroes Con! Check out a free preview of my new song "Hundred Thousand Crossroads (Eric's Theme)" at the end of the interview! My segment lasts about eight minutes if you start it at the 20:45 mark. http://ecnradio.com/con-chronicles-4-heroes-con-2014/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+ElectricCityNerds+%28Electric +City+Nerds%29&utm_content=FeedBurner

It's finally time to announce and official release! I'm pretty excited, having not done anything on this scale in a really long time. On the off chance anyone is close enough to come by, I'll give you one free comic for mentioning this post and saying the words "The Hawk flies again" in person (limited one per group). http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii281/Randylbishop/CROSSROADSDRAFT3_zpsff8ffc0f.jpg (http://s267.photobucket.com/user/Randylbishop/media/CROSSROADSDRAFT3_zpsff8ffc0f.jpg.html)

Alright so, now I'm trying my hand at press releases. I'd really appreciate some feedback on this, or this thread here in general. What do you guys think?

The Art of Randyl Bishop and Lunar Works Productions with the support of Genterine Records is excited to announce the release of The Hawk of New York; The Official Soundtrack!

THE HAWK OF NEW YORK is a great CD of 16 1980s cover songs and one original sung by artists worldwide! It is the first ever soundtrack to accompany a comic book! First conceived as a comic book by artist Randyl Bishop in the 1980s, he has now, after some years in the comic book industry, rebooted the entire series, entitled The Hawk of New York! Issue one of the comic has received positive reviews, most notably industry cornerstone Ain't It Cool News. (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/67044#4). The music of the time period plays an integral part in the narrative set in the 1980s and features covers by bands like Radio Cult, Celia Gary, The Lost Boys, Cydetrax, Farpoint, October Layne, Pure Ed, Neil Lee Griffin: The Scarecrow of Upstate South Carolina, and many more! It features Latvian punk sensation Konservetie Stringi ("Canned G-Strings").

Issue one of the accompanying comic book and the CD itself will ship on August 23rd, 2014!

Wow, holy crap! Time flies when you are having fun!

I just released the fifth issue of my comic book! Here's a one minute trailer for it:

It features music from bands like Jack the Radio. You can check out the associated song here:

Here's the first review I've received for the comic book, which feature a cover by Marvel Comics artist Javier Saltares:

You can buy all five issues at my store www.timebound.co

Right now, I'm working on digital distribution, but they are still all available in print- issue one printing is almost sold out!
