Good News: Several hoodlums and ne'er-do-wells have finally been apprehended brought to trial. :D

Bad News: You know that thing about the accused's right to Legal Representation?

Guess what, you're it.

You have been pegged at public defender for the following scofflaws. Think you have a chance of getting them off (or at least plea-bargan them out of life imprisonment/Death Row)?

Prince Hans Westergard of The Southern Isles (Frozen) (Charges: Attempted Murder, Attempted Regicide, Reckless Endangerment, Depraved Indifference to Human Life, Fraud, Perjury)
Laura Kenney, AKA X-23 (MU) (Charges: Murder, Aggravated Assault, Torture, Vagrancy, Destruction of Govt. Property, Theft, Juvenile Delinquency, Weapons Violations)
Eugene Fitzherbert, AKA Flynn Rider (Tangled) (Charges: Grand Theft, Kidnapping, Burglary, Breaking & Entering, Assault)
PV2 Alana (SaGa) (Charges: Desertion, Fraternizing with the Enemy, Assault, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Treason, Aiding the Escape of a POW)
Hänsel and Gretel (Black Lagoon) (Charges: Murder, Torture, Sexual Assault, Weapons Violations, Murder for Hire, Manufacture of Child Pornography)
John Doe, AKA Doctor Facilier (The Princess & the Frog) (Charges: Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Fraud, False Imprisonment, Dark Sorcery)
Captain William Laurence, Aerial Corps (Naiomi Novik's Temeraire books) (Charges: Desertion, Theft of Classified War Materiel, Assaulting a Royal Marine, Robbery, Providing Aid and Comfort to an Enemy Nation in time of War, Espionage)
Gaston (Beauty & the Beast) (Charges: Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Instigating a Riot, Vandalism, Perjury, False Imprisonment, Attempted Blackmail)
Korra, daughter of Tonraq (LoK) (Charges: Vagrancy, Petty Theft, Gross Destruction of City & Private Property, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest)

Motion to at least kick the defendant in the junk a few times, and tattoo the words, "All my older brothers are jerks" onto his face before he leaves.

That will get you out of a lot of things. Pretty sure regicide isn't one of them. That's either a "let them have them or go to war" scenario. And I'm pretty sure no one in his family cares enough about him to fight a war over him.

Gaston (Beauty & the Beast) (Charges: Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Instigating a Riot, Vandalism, Perjury, False Imprisonment, Attempted Blackmail)

Your honor, the charges of Murder and Assault should be dropped. After all, the legal definition of Murder is "the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought (prior intention to kill the particular victim or anyone who gets in the way) and with no legal excuse or authority," and the supposed target of my client's so-called 'murder attempt' was clearly not a human being. Furthermore, my client is a hunter by trade, and charging him with Assault for shooting at a wild animal would set a bad legal precedent.

As for Instigating a Riot and Vandalism, my client was previously seen carousing at a local tavern. We have witness testimony that "No one drinks like Gaston," and I request his sentence for this be reduced to a fine, community service, and court-mandated AlAnon meetings.

My client pleads Guilty to charges of False Imprisonment and Blackmail, which are due to his one-sided obsession for Ms. Belle. I would request that his sentence be reduced to court-mandated counseling and a restraining order.

My client pleads Not Guilty to the remaining charge of Perjury, as he did not lie under oath before a court of law. Even should he be found guilty of this crime, it is not worth a life imprisonment or death sentence.

Gonna be hard to get him off the first one as the Beast will look like a person at any point Gaston would be tried for this. That said, you might be able to get it put down as a misunderstanding if he plead guilty to a lesser charge.

Laura Kenney, AKA X-23 (MU) (Charges: Murder, Aggravated Assault, Torture, Vagrancy, Destruction of Govt. Property, Theft, Juvenile Delinquency, Weapons Violations)

This one would be the easiest to argue, considering she was forcibly made into a weapon, tortured, and basically made to kill people. You could at the very least argue insanity, not to mention play heavily on the fact she's only a teenage girl and her story is highly sympathetic to a jury.

Laura Kenney, AKA X-23 (MU) (Charges: Murder, Aggravated Assault, Torture, Vagrancy, Destruction of Govt. Property, Theft, Juvenile Delinquency, Weapons Violations) She is still a minor and the murder charges were due to emotional, mental, and physical abuse. Move to put her in juvenile counseling for X number of years.
Eugene Fitzherbert, AKA Flynn Rider (Tangled) (Charges: Grand Theft, Kidnapping, Burglary, Breaking & Entering, Assault) Push like crazy to get a female judge... if it happens. Your honor, will you look at that face... just look at it
PV2 Alana (SaGa) (Charges: Desertion, Fraternizing with the Enemy, Assault, Theft, Resisting Arrest, Treason, Aiding the Escape of a POW) Sorry, don't know
Hänsel and Gretel (Black Lagoon) (Charges: Murder, Torture, Sexual Assault, Weapons Violations, Murder for Hire, Manufacture of Child Pornography)
John Doe, AKA Doctor Facilier (The Princess & the Frog) (Charges: Attempted Murder, Kidnapping, Fraud, False Imprisonment, Dark Sorcery) Your honor.. the defendant has been in a catatonic state ever since we found him in the woods next to some crazy symbols in a cave.. Plea insanity

Hänsel and Gretel (Black Lagoon) (Charges: Murder, Torture, Sexual Assault, Weapons Violations, Murder for Hire, Manufacture of Child Pornography)

That last one's easy; show the highlights of their "home movies". No sane judge will fail to realize that they were the victims.

For everything else? Plead insanity.

Korra, daughter of Tonraq (LoK) (Charges: Vagrancy, Petty Theft, Gross Destruction of City & Private Property, Reckless Endangerment, Resisting Arrest)

That one's easy, too; show what a police state her hometown is.

*Hansel and Gretel (Black Lagoon) - Radical has the right of it. These are minors, forced to do child pornography/snuff films, with issues with their own identity (they switch which one is which regularly), to say nothing of damage to their own bodies. The kids have been driven mad, and have no sense of right and wrong. They need a hospital and a lot of therapy, and if they are lucky, they might become stable people one day.

On the other hand, I sometimes feel that Balalaika having them shot was a mercy, as well.

*Gaston - Possibly point out the fact that there is no way for a person to correlate the Beast with the man he was, that Gaston was hunting a beast that was threatening people. Depending on the time frame, point out the fact that no one in the Beast's service can be who they said they were (it had been long enough and far away enough that people did not know who the house belonged to). Last I checked, the major people that can push the False Imprisonment and Attempted Blackmail.... well, the latter is hard, but the former has the case of who is going to mention that. The known-to-be-loony father? The daughter, who just claimed to have spent some time with talking teapots? A small boy, who claims he was a teacup when helping the father break out? Who is going to believe that?

Of course, that depends on how magic is viewed in the setting.

*Flynn Ryder - Just get him a royal pardon, if it comes at any point after the movie.

*Captain William Lawrence - is this the thing about the moss/fungus? Play up the fact that he essentially stopped a plague that would have dire effects across all of Europe, if not farther. No country in the world could negotiate in good faith with Britain if they kept the solution to themselves. Hit the news, play up the fact he found the cure, and that he's now a hero for all of Europe. Put public opinion in play to make politicians look the other way. He's got an good record, a previously celebrated hero, and controls an important strategic asset that is one of the major ways Britain is pulling even with France. Make it suicide to take Lawrence out of the equation.

I TOLD you I could get you out of those "Attempted murder", "Threatening A Judge", High Treason, and "Assault of Agents of the Law" charges. And you did those in a court full of witnesses!! You'll be off with community service on these charges. And most of your Avatar duties fall under "community services" too.

Gasai Yuno and Uryu Minene - well, if we want to go silly, we can possibly work the "out of our jurisidiction" angle, seeing as their crimes occurred in at least one if not two alternate realities. There is nothing supporting that the crimes have occurred in this reality, and that there is proof that they have not (else Minene wouldn't have problems with floating babies). You can possibly try two other routes with Yuno: 1. Wrong person. There is physical evidence that Gasai Yuno is dead, and was dead during the time of the crimes. This works best if Yuno is not in custody. 2. Minor, obviously in serious need of mental help. This is a girl who can tell when grape tomatoes are the wrong weight, to say nothing of the other bizarre stuff she can do. Show the cage, maybe bring up the obvious parental abuse, the dead remains in the courtyard and you can argue that there was a twin that did not make it. Might be able to get her down to being sent to an asylum.

Huh, weird thought - they only competed in the Future Diary stuff due to Deus, so they were forced into death matches. Might be able to wriggle Yuno out of it that way if she did not kill her parents before the beginning of it all. Minene is in trouble, though, since she was already on terrorist lists before hand. Maybe a plea bargain, lessen sentence, for info on who hired her services?

Akemi Homura - "She stole what? How much? At one time?" *Point to little Japanese girl* "You are saying she walked out of a secure facility with 10x her body weight and size of rocket launchers, and no one noticed? Not even the cameras? Grand Theft? Are you saying she stole cars? Was she driving them? No? She was riding the top of them and directing them from there? Really? What guns? Can you find me any guns on her? Juvenile Delinquency? What has she done wrong? Do you have any proof? Any witnesses willing to come forth and testify? Magical Girls? Witches? Really?"

Time Stop and Pocket Dimensions make trying to prove a lot of the stuff hard. There MIGHT be video evidence of her using a firearm, but that would be at QB, and thus no physical proof of the gun not being a really good mock-up. Honestly, the bigger problem would be the gunpowder on her clothes and all.... except she's normally in her costume, which doesn't always exist.... hrm....

If this is under real world logic, then I go through the motions until he's sentenced to being executed. Repeatedly. Because there is no defense for the Joker.

If it's under comic book logic, then I go with Guy1 and plead insanity. And win easily. Though my soul will whither and blacken from helping Joker escape his well-deserved fate of being repeatedly executed.
