My wife makes a chocolate cake with frosting on top and it's delicious.

As a kid growing up in the UK I loved Angel Delight and also the cheesecake (crumbly base) at secondary school.

At present, I love a solid chocolate cake and a good Tiramisu.

The Polish make fantastic homemade cakes, my favourites being apple pie by my wife's grandma and pound cake by my mother-in-law. My wife also makes a delicious gluten-free chocolate cake.

Oh my . They are so many that are deadly!

A local bakery makes something called an Atomic Cake and it is just like a multi-layered strawberry shortcake and whip cream to send my cholesterol levels soaring.

We have another in the area called Designer Desserts that makes many varieties of cupcakes. I had half of one one day and the second the next. So rich it's hard to eat in one sitting.

Red Velvet Cake ( I used to have a scratch recipe from someone who lived down South but lost it)

    Bakers Square:
    French Silk Pie
    Caramel Silk Supreme
European Chocolate Truffle Pie (seasonal not a regular item)
    Custard Pie

I could come up with more but that's it for now.

French silk pie?!? What is that?

For my preferred desserts I don't know how to translate the French names in English... And there are so many... I'll try to explain more later and if I can post some pics - but if I understood correctly photobucklet won't allow me to use it...

    So there are :
    Eclair au café
    Tarte tatin
    Paris Brest
Some chocolate cake from Vienna with an orange taste - I don't remember the name....
The ile flottante also (the already mentioned floating island)
    And the Charlotte aux fraises
The tarte au citron - meringue or not...

The croissant au beurre is for breakfast as the pain au raisin.

I'm sure you can Google most of them and at least get what they look like and what they are made of!

Every bakery from Morroco is wonderful also as the pastel nata from Portugal...

Just had a great piece of cake at a restaurant in St. Joseph, Michigan. It combined a lemon cake with blueberries and a whipped cream icing. Yum.

I have no idea why Baker's Square calls it their French Silk pie but you can take a look it at here and the rest of their pie menu here

I think I may have tried something similar to the chocolate and orange flavored cake you mentioned. All of those sound very tempting in your post. In NW Indiana and Chicago, there used to be a lot of locally owned ethnic bakeries. They have mostly disappeared sadly since many supermarket chains include a bakery section in the store. So it pushed out the local businesses.
