    always hard to tell with wiki entries, since they're communal...but the trope was coined by the TF fandom originally and then adopted by TVtropes and probably more. in TVtropes it's more associated with "jumping the shark" than a change or development that old school fans feel...ruined...things...forever. wookiepedia is pretty much a cut n paste but it still works brilliantly

    the scary thing is, you can just <insert random fandom here> and the trope makes complete sense. is there even one fandom that's immune?

    Along the lines of "comic stories that have ruined a character forever" - what other examples are there?

    Hank Pym being a spouse abuser comes to mind.

    Alot of people would have felt this way about Hal Jordan before Johns pulled greatness out of disaster with Rebirth.

    Hal was salvaged, now if only the same could be said of Carol. She's the closest DC has gotten to the post-OMD shaft experianced by MJ

    She almost dragged Kyle down with her. Thank goodness he broke away.
