In a constitutional monarchy, the sovereign is supposed to be above partisan politics. Which is why the Queen can’t be seen to advocate one political solution over another. It would undermine parliamentary government and cause a political crisis that would threaten her position.

The Queen has to use gentle persuasion out of the public eye, if there’s a political solution she advocates. But the royals do support several companies and charities. And the UK reaps billions in profits from exploiting the royals. If they got paid like Hollywood stars or corporate CEOs, they would probably make more money and pay less taxes.

I’m not saying the monarchy is the best, but it’s hypocrisy to act like any other system of government has worked for the collective interests of the common people and against the self-interests of the rich and powerful.

And some of us want a day of superficial, sentimental distraction without being made to feel bad about it all the time.

I thought it was a beautiful ceremony. I thought her mum was so brave and I loved her. I hope she’s doing ok now.

It was on TV at my dealership while I was having the oil in my car changed, so I watched. I'll admit it was kinda sorta neat.

It was his moment in the spotlight with a worldwide audience tuning in. Hell, I'd been surprised if he HADN'T gone full on Shatner and hammed it up.

Loved that part too. The gospel choir was so beautiful! I think a lot of guests had to fight royal protocol and not give an applause. I certainly would have given a standing ovation. Indeed, seeing this royal wedding with people of color not only in attendance but also playing prominent roles made me smile.

Of course, there were many other great familial moments. I especially liked William supporting his brother like a brother should. And the glances Harry and Megan gave one another, those were real. All in all, this was a lovely wedding!

I saw the video of the wedding. The wedding wasn't just lavish and extravagant. It was grandiose.

    They tied the knot.

Yeah, he gave her away from her family to his family. How does that work?

Why didn't her mother do it instead?

It's okay. Mexico pays for them.

He didn't "give her away". They made that point she walked down most of the aisle herself. Then he escorted her to Harry, but purposefully she didn't need anyone "giving her away". She went to him herself.
I thought that part was pretty nice making a statement sort of.

Anyone see reporting on what the economic boost of the wedding would be? I heard about how much the US stations paid for hotels even to the point of removing hotel windows etc for their shots. And taking over 300 plus rooms just for the tv productions. Several Windsor hotels, food etc wondering what the economic benefit is estimated at.

Compared to the security costs, etc.
