The Queen’s speech is written for her by the government, and she’s obliged to deliver it. The other point is a point against local government.

I’m largely indifferent to the Royal Family myself, but that’s where the blame for these matters lies

You're right but she doesn't say anything against the poverty so many of us have to endure in the austerity madness. If the Queen honestly had any selfrespect, she would speak out against it or demand that the state tell her jewels to feed the homeless.

And just to point out, I'm not even a wishy-washy socialist.

Also to add, the council in Windsor have been actively pushing out homeless people to make way for the wedding. How vile is that? I wonder how many of those on the streets have actually fought and nearly died for "Queen and country".

The queen/family are part of the problem. They try to push this idea that they are humble and generous, when in reality they are not. The crowd on her head could feed so many people alone. Don't see how it can be justified.

The Emperor is considered a diplomat so in a lot of cases he does talk to dignitaries that come in. His sister and her daughter are the heads of the Ise Shrine where a sacred Mirror is housed, and only they can have access to it.

Also interesting is that, if I understand right, the English Royal house can have the Queen step down whenever she's ready and allow Charles to take on the role as king. It's the first time in a long time in Japan that the Emperor is doing that and they're all trying to figure out how this is going to work because the Emperor's dad chose to die while ruling rather then hand it over to his son.

Question, given that Megan does own I think an apartment in the US, does that mean that the British tax payers are going to be helping pay for that, or will that still be on her own dime, since she's still going to be acting? Anyone know an answer about that?
TO be fair to Meghan I do think she'll be paying for her own property. I can't see Meghan herself using much British funds.

I will probably DVR it. I remember waking up early to watch Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding. Loved her gown.

I don't even care about the Royals that have a shot at the throne. Harry and Meghan are about the equivalent of D-list celebs.

But I wish them both as much happiness as I do anybody else.

For those of us who follow this kind of thing, and I do sort of casually, it's kind of historic to have an American-born princess. So that's why I want to see it. If only to see her in her gown and to see what tiara the Queen provides for her.

I disagree with the whole concept of a royal family, so I have as much interest in this wedding as I have in any other complete stranger's wedding.

    None.

    (And I didn't watch Elizabeth & Philip's wedding. Of course, I wasn't born yet when that one took place . . . )
I was born only 9 days before Charles & Diana's wedding , so I did not watch it.

Yeah. I'm not even a fan of royal people in fiction. Namor, T'Challa, Aragorn, Arthur... ptooey!
(now, I dig Namor and Aragorn when they're not on the throne...)

I hate the daily mail so much but this is a perfect example of why I care so little:

Meghan's daddy will not be attending the royal wedding.

I hoped it would be a false rumor but as the wedding date gets closer, I have realized it is Mr. Markle's final decision. It is a disappointment that the father will not walk the bride down the aisle at her wedding.

Poor Meghan must have been embarrassed to have estranged siblings bitch about her. Perhaps the word "estranged" doesn't even begin to describe Meghan's relationship with her siblings.

They should all go on Jerry Springer and resolve their differences.

I don't think its just "the media". Royals are a 'thing' over here in America for a lot of people for the "fairy tale" escapist aspect. We have trashy Kardashians as some people's "royals". When you are drowning in trumpism and scandals everyday, president covering up porn star affairs etc. This idea of a big beautiful old school "fairy tale wedding" to fawn over for a couple hours is pretty nice escapism from the bitter reality.

Regarding the jewels that are not her's like the crown jewels, from what I understand they're considered the states and part of a historic museum, so I think she's not allowed to sell those. As for her own private collection, from what people were saying in various reports she owns more costume jewelry than actually expensive things. So Up in the air how much that is going to go for. But I agree that the Queen should at least say somethings about the homeless issue, though I think it would be up to the Parliament to do anything about it in the long run.

And just to point out, I'm not even a wishy-washy socialist.

Well it's very much like the whole situation with Brazil when the Olympics went there. Hide your poor, your weak and you're homeless. I'm sure a lot have. Most American Homeless are vets too. Although you have to watch the sources because it is the Daily mail. Well we don't get to see a lot for most people, and while I agree that there's a lot there that needs work, I wouldn't go saying sell the crown, given that if they did I think it would have to go to the South Sea's debt first and for most.

I would hope so, and she's taking duel citizen ship, so double the taxes for her. My only worry right now is that the camera f**kers in the states are going to be double bad for her when she's states side.

Yeah it is. Normally from what I understand, the American's were not considered a good choice for marriage due to, ah...our past with the brits. Agree, her dress and crown should be interesting to see. I hear there's a chance it will either be an A line or a ballgown.

Well given what was going on with him, is it any wonder he wouldn't show up after those stunts? Actually I'm okay with her mom doing it. She mostly raised her, so she should be allowed to walk her daughter down the aisle. Yeah that situation with her sister...I don't like Piers, but dude, kudos to him for laying a bit of a smack down with her sister in regard to the call. Given that, from what I understand, her father cheated on her mom and his side of the family blamed her mom for the cheating, I wouldn't be too shocked if non of them are coming to the wedding.

We do have other royals over here too in a way. Certain Celebrities, the Obamas are being seen as royals recently and there's a few other people that have that idea. We didn't want a king so...
