That sounds like it could be interesting, but what I've read of coates's run is so boring I'm going out on a limb and assume that it's not.

It should get moved to the shredder. A What If...? story wouldn't be this bad.

I can imagine Priest or Hudlin would have fared just as well or better had they had the benefit of all the buzz of Black Panther appearing in CA:CW and an upcoming movie.

Jim Shooter was probably one of the best Editors in Chief Marvel ever had.

Agreed. Give either of those guys the Hickman NA/SWII alley-oop + MCU CW debut + solo movie announcement + years without a solo... and you have a great recipe for success. That those guys both did around 40k+ for year 1 has always been a testament to the potential of the character

Yeah, whatever people think of him, he was a continuity buff. He wouldn't let half the crap being put out now get through.

If it was truly about not knowing how Hickman would end things, then Coates run would've started with T'Challa as a vagabond without a country or people because the whole prelude to Shuri's death was that Wakanda was wiped off the face of the map by the Cabal leaving nothing but necropolis.

But obviously, Wakanda is fully restored at the start of Coates run. So he knew a reset was coming and that Shuri's death was no more a thing than the deaths of Cap, Iron Man, Thor, Hyperion, etc. He was going to find a way to tell his story regardless; even if it meant creating some whole new villains to magically encase her into some inexplicable ember

It's really sad how the sloppiest levels of writing coupled with editorial laziness gets celebrated and excused by some readers.

It almost seems as if excusing this level of unprofessional conduct has become the normal nowadays.

You're excellent post clearly illustrates the blatant dishonesty Coates engaged in by claiming to have been unaware as to how Hickman's saga concluded.

Unfortunately, some would rather engage in Olympic level gymnastics whilst making excuses for Coates agenda filled crap.

What's the point of having an editor if characters are written ooc and previous continuity is ignored. The writers just do what they want.

He had his agenda going in regardless of what happened. Wakanda and T'Challa were going to be fundamentally changed no matter what.
