Luffy hasn't become this way after One Piece's timeskip, Oda still manages to balance everything out.
that's not really the reason why, he is the one spoken of in a prophecy that happens to have the strongest tailed beast sealed in him, allowing him to draw on it's power. he always had immense power, but thanks to those training him and becoming slightly more mature, he's able to harness the power.

it's not even close to being accurate
Having lived closer to the source material and the times in which it happened I have a different perspective from others. My mother was there-_SELMA--at 14. My Uncle in law's father was the flight instructor for the Tuskegee Airmen.
    I know first hand accounts.

Ok. But my point was that Stan Lee didn't need to make the X-Men metaphors because he was willing to deal with race head on.

It's funny how the books in the 1970's went straight for the jugular unlike now when lame allegories abound.
For what it's worth, this Spiderman story ( Harry Osburn as a addict sub-plot) and the Green Lantern drug story led to the comics code being revised. Previous to these tales, it was forbidden to mention that narcotics even existed.

Wow you learn something new everyday. I'm probably gonna checkout some older Doom Patrol stories now.

Well went through the Delta Episode in Omega Ruby day. Going into space in a Pokémon game has been a dream of mine since I heard that bs rumor way back in grade school. The theme to Gurren Lagann was playing in my head throughout the entire meteor smashing cutscene.

If you do check out the doom patrol, I recommend Giffen's run first, to get your feet wet, then Morrison's. Morrison on a vertigo book= super trippy.

Glad you liked the delta episode, did you catch Deoxys? I flipped out when I saw him.

Just put the first issue of Giffen's run in my cart on Comixology. I'll probably pick up some more soon since they're so cheap.

Yeah the Delta episode was pretty cool, I just can't get enough of Pokémon mythology. And yes I caught Deoxys. I've caught a few legendaries recently but I saved the master ball for Deoxys. I think I'll go after the musketeer next. Man I really hope that new Keldeo event comes stateside.

Found these podcasts on minorities and minority characters:

What did you think? I was impressed with the level of discussion, but didn't always agree.

The Atlantic has two pieces that seem relevant to this thread.

Erika Hayasaki profiles the psychologist/ comic book fan/ daughter of Ecuadorian immigrants who became a character in Simone's Batgirl.

Ta-Nehishi Coates writes about what Spider-Man's marriage meant for him.

Never thought I shared that in common with Coates. But in retrospect, I'm not surprised.
