So I had my first experience falling forward a socially conservative liberal, as strange as that may seem. So I have my artist group of friends who are really cool peeps, but I always figure they're socially conservative so I never mention anything about race, especially being the only black person in the group. Well one of our friends came back from Seattle, and he's as liberal as they come I thought. He believes in universal health care, legalizing mary jane, free education, the classic bullet points. He also likes to talk a lot about topics such as politics and etc. So we're talking at a restaurant and drawing, and while he's talking about those issues, I bring up Laquan believing we would be along the same lines. Boy was I wrong, it was amazing how he had appear to turn into conservative in the blink of an eye, even using fox news bulletin points to bring out why he dislike what's going on in University of Missouri, and started bringing out every bullet point on how everybody has it bad, etc. I was shocked, and told him I didn't really want to talk about those topics anymore, because it was obvious his mentality had the same mindset as socially conservative even though he consider himself a liberal. And he describe one of the reasons why he left Seattle was because it was too liberal, but when he used the reason why, it just sounded like he wanted to be able to slut shame and get away with it.
I definitely learned my lesson. Just because someone's liberal does not mean they will understand social dynamics in any way shape or form.
