It's all a matter of opinion, but it is Bronze Age writing and not even good Bronze Age writing.

Like myself and others have said: Kirby had some amazing ideas and was a great story teller but his writing was below average or cheesy as one poster noted.

I'm sure you can sample some of it on the cheap before dropping $75 (if you can get half off at CGN or IST) of the $150 if you have to pay cover.

I've read a lot of this previously so it's an easy pass for me. Again, if you've never read this stuff you should probably sample it first.

Started reading the Atlantis Chronicles - I've been wanting to read this series for a long time. The book itself is gorgeous, I kinda like it better without the dustjacket to be honest. Art is great - really cheesecake/beefcake and reminds me a lot of Grell's Warlord work

I think of it this way, and in no way do I think it's a fair comparison, reading Kirby is like reading Shakespeare. Except Kirby is way better! It's a lunatic blend of ideas. And boy, the characters sure do talk funny. He's got the Newsboy Legion, who talk like they are in 1930's depression era Brooklyn. He's got Jimmy Olsen and the Forever People, who talk like, what a 50 year old man thinks young people talk like, and then he's got the New Gods. They all speak in allegories, riddles, and bombast. It can all get on your nerves. Having said that, it get's better every time I read it, and I actually am starting to think its kind of really good. I have these books in hardcover, floppies, and black and white trades. The chance to see that art on big nice paper makes it a really tempting buy. To quote the master, "Don't ask, just buy it!" Or save your money and buy the hardcovers used. They are on newsprint but they still look great. They have to come down in price now that the omnibus is out. Actually forget Shakespeare reading Kirby is like watching Monty Python the first time. I can see some people backing out slowly.... In the end, he's like Grant Morrison when it comes to the sheer number of ideas per page, it's overwhelming. When the momentum of the stories are met with really terrific Kirby art, there's nothing like it!

and this is where the conflicting opinions meet. In the end, its my decision to purchase it, but I continue to hear a lot of different things about the writing. I guess in the end, it wouldn't be a terrible purchase.

If you have the money to put down for it and you don’t like it, then I doubt you would have a hard time recouping it.

That's true. I actually agree with an earlier comment about just having it for the art. I wonder if I can find some posters while im at it.

There were a couple of speech bubbles missing and two pages were in the wrong order.

Literally didn't matter at all to me and I didn't even notice it while reading until I heard about it later on, but some people were very upset.

Oh, I thought it might be that, but expected a bigger issue to be called a debacle :P

I haven't checked to see if any new printings have turned up for the JLI Omni. But I may check with my LCS tonight (or tomorrow or Sat). I'm in no hurry, me & LCS owner are tight and he assured me he'll just give me the corrected one once it turns up. And DC assured me it will turn up eventually.

(if anyone knows though, please let us know here)
Thank you America for voting for change.
