Republicans rally around Nunes as Russia firestorm spreads

    Devin Nunes isn’t going anywhere.

Even as Democrats demand that the California Republican recuse himself from his panel’s Russia investigation and criticism ratchets up from key GOP senators, House Republicans are standing by the embattled Intelligence Committee chairman.

“No and no,” House Speaker Paul Ryan said Tuesday when asked whether Nunes should recuse himself and if he knew the identity of the source who provided Nunes with evidence he claims showed Trump transition aides were improperly monitored.

Nunes himself rebuffed reporters' questions Tuesday about whether he’ll continue to lead the investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election, saying: “Why would I not?” His spokesman followed up by saying in a statement, “There is no chance the chairman will recuse himself, absolutely not.”
This is one firestorm that can only lead to a whole lot of Republicans getting burned.

These rules wouldn't have applied to the likes of Google or Facebook — massive data collectors and digital advertisers — and that's been a major point of contention for ISPs. But consumer groups argue that's no reason to roll back restrictions on Internet providers. Plus, they point out, you could abandon those companies in favor of other websites, if you disagree with their policies; switching Internet providers is not so easy.

ISPs have long attempted to break into the ad-targeting and online marketing world, where the competition is intense. For context on what that market looks like, I turned to Jules Polonetsky, privacy expert and CEO of the Future of Privacy Forum, a nonprofit organization promoting responsible data collection.

It looks like Tom Perez is cleaning the house.

    http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elec...m_npd_nn_tw_ma
Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez has launched a major overhaul of the party's organization, which has been stung by recent crises — and the DNC has requested resignation letters from all current staffers.

Party staff routinely see major turnover with a new boss and they had been alerted to expect such a move. However, the mass resignation letters will give Perez a chance to completely remake the DNC's headquarters from scratch. Staffing had already reached unusual lows following a round of post-election layoffs in December.

Immediately after Perez's selection as party chairman in late February, an adviser to outgoing DNC Interim Chair Donna Brazile, Leah Daughtry, asked every employee to submit a letter of resignation dated April 15, according to multiple sources familiar with the party's internal workings.

Pfft! Since when did Republicans care about their constituents? The GOP is screwing us every chance they get now that they control all three branches of government, and that trend ain't changing anytime soon.

Robert Reich: Republicans Can’t Govern and Don’t Want To

House Speaker Paul Ryan, in his press conference following the demise of his bill to replace Obamacare, blamed Republicans who had failed to grasp that the GOP was now a “governing party.”

“We were a 10-year opposition party, where being against things was easy to do,” said Ryan. “You just had to be against it. Now, in three months’ time, we tried to go to a governing party where we actually had to get 216 people to agree with each other on how we do things.” It was, he said, “the growing pains of government.”

    Rubbish.

Apparently Ryan doesn’t grasp that he put forward a terrible bill to begin with. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, it would have resulted in 24 million Americans losing health coverage over the next decade, hardly made a dent in the federal debt and transferred over $600 billion to the wealthiest members of American society.
I think it is very clear that Republicans haven't been able to Govern since, maybe Reagan.

6 Obama climate policies that Trump orders change

(CNN)President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed an executive order curbing the federal government's enforcement of climate regulations, a move that represents a sharp reversal from his predecessor's position.

The Obama administration put in place a number of programs that attempted to address the impact of climate change, including rising sea levels and temperatures.
Trump said those actions harmed American businesses.

"With today's executive action, I am taking historic steps to lift the restrictions on American energy, to reverse government intrusion and to cancel job-killing regulations," he said at an event marking the signing of the executive order.

Here's a look at six climate change policies affected by Trump's executive orders:

The most important point made by Reich in this article:

America and the rest of the world must hold our collective breath, hoping that the next elections—the midterms of 2018 and then the presidential election of 2020—set things right. And hoping that in the meantime nothing irrevocably awful occurs.
Democrats need to get their act together and start capitalizing on the GOP's failings. It's all about 2018 at this point.

Sadly, I suspect most people don't actually give enough of a shit about politics to actively follow it. They just vote for whoever has the letter they most identify with next to their name.
