2 local churches have declared themselves sanctuaries for illegal immigrants, a Methodist and a Pentecostal church

one of them is in kind of a rough neighborhood, so if ICE wants to try something - theyll have to deal with "resistance"

That sounds ominous. For certain, if such a situation like that were to come to pass, something tells me it won't end well.

The latest attack in Germany means we need a travel ban on all Wall Street investors until we've figured out what the hell is going on.

    First 100 Days of Trump

The Guardian is keeping track of Trump, day by day. It's day 91 and the only thing Trump has been involved in that was successful was getting Gorsuch into the Supreme Court.

CIA liaison is first casualty of conflict between intelligence agency and Trump

Multiple former colleagues described the former CIA liaison as a consummate professional with no history of infractions. But late one afternoon in mid-March, the retired marine was abruptly informed that his services were no longer needed and he ought not to come to work the next day. Co-workers were shocked at a display that seemed designed to humiliate him.

“It was the most disrespectful thing they could have done,” said a White House official familiar with the incident. “He’s a good man. What happened to him was fucked up.”

Over a month later, the CIA has not sent a replacement liaison to the White House, though there are other agency officials on loan there. The ex-liaison has not been accused of any crime or abuse and has returned to the CIA.

The liaison’s removal, first reported by the Washington Post, followed a clash with Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the 30-year-old intelligence director on the NSC staff, to whom he reported.

Yeah, and the GOP essentially had to break the rules to put Gorsuch on the bench, so even that victory comes with an asterisk. Meanwhile, the Obamacare repeal flopped like a flounder, no money has been set aside for that damn border wall, and tax reform has yet to be addressed. Meanwhile, the Syria missile strike wound up being much ado about nothing, and the MOAB drop did little to curtail ISIS since killing their soldiers means nothing as long as their ideology survives. And by the by, Trump's approval rating, when last I checked was barely around 40 percent as the bloom is definitely off the rose in the minds of his supporters who are coming to realize they've backed the wrong horse.

Thousands of tiny satellites are about to go into space and possibly ruin it forever

Halfway through the European Space Agency's new film, we're at the part where — if this were some happy space documentary from yesteryear — Carl Sagan might be giving us a tour of a distant galaxy.

But it's 2017, Sagan is dead, and this is a film about space trash. So six minutes in, we're stuck a mere 800 miles above Earth, watching a wasp swarm of defunct satellites whip around the globe to a frenetic soundtrack that sounds like the end of “The Dark Knight.”

It's a dramatic simulation of what low Earth orbit looks like today. You can even watch it in 3-D. Because the European Space Agency really, really wants you to pay attention to the space debris problem.

The problem is about to get worse, experts say, as cheap, tiny satellites are shot through the stratosphere in unprecedented numbers.

Worst-case scenario: a massive, unstoppable, chain-reaction traffic wreck above our heads. So much for escaping Earth to distant galaxies.
Space exploration could become difficult if space trash and massive numbers of satellites create a barrier around the planet. Consider that almost every country on the planet wants to have their own network of satellites and there is no way to clean up the debris of damaged, no-longer-in-use satellites floating around up there.

Never mind the danger all that junk poses to the International Space Station and the people manning it. A sad situation indeed.

In both 2015, as well as 2016, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of Tony Tinderholt, a member of the Texas House of Representatives and Jared Lee Loughner look-alike who hangs out with anti-immigrant militia groups and talks about arming Americans all along the U.S./Mexico border to stop Mexicans from taking “free stuff” and “thieving”. His solution to the immigration crisis is “people are going to die and that’s the only thing that is going to stop migrants from taking the lifeblood of our country.” Tinderholt has also told open-carry advocates in his district to call him immediately if the police even question them for wandering around with a firearm. Best of all was Tinderholt’s reaction to a Texas probate judge ruling that the state must comply with the Supreme Court’s rulings on same sex marriage… Tinderholt tried rallying against the judge for this, but in his effort online to do so, named the wrong case and the wrong judge. Making his crusade to protect the sanctity of marriage on Christian principles even more ridiculous and hypocritical is the fact that Tinderholt has been divorced four times, and is on his fifth marriage by the age of 44. When we last left him, he also was under an ethics investigation for “misplacing” $15,000 in campaign funds, something that is not shocking when you consider that back in 1999, one of his ex-wives and employees were embezzling money from a child care business he ran to buy crack cocaine (at least it was without Tinderholt’s knowledge).

As we reported in our last entry, Tinderholt barely survived a primary challenge from Andrew Piel, and the only opponent he had to face off against in the general election was Libertarian Jessica Pallett, who he crushed with 74% of the vote. Since being allowed to continue his legislative career into a second term, he has already shown no signs of chilling out, now directing his attention towards abortion. And like any Tinderholt effort, it's extreme and insane. He sponsored HB 948, "The Abolition of Abortion in Texas Act". HB 948 claims that fetuses have rights and each one should be considered "a living human child, from the moment of fertilization upon the fusion of a human spermatozoon with a human ovum." Because of this, the fetus, from the moment egg and sperm meet in a fallopian tube, is to be "entitled to the same rights, powers, and privileges as are secured or granted by the laws of this state to any other human child." Tinderholt followed up just that inflammatory idea with a series of quotes that take misogyny towards a level best described as completely insulting:

Yes, those pesky wimmenfolk just don't know anything about being personally responsible about sex, amirite, fellas? Especially the rape and incest victims who aren't exempted by the bill Tinderholt just wrote, those non-smartly thinking consenting adults. (Please note those past two sentences are laced with all of the sarcasm I can muster.)

People did ask Tinderholt why he makes no exceptions for rape or incest, and this was his response:

So unless a rapist were to father a child that looks non-human, Tinderholt feels everyone should be thrilled. Got it. Oh, and we'll point out that while Tinderholt feels there should be no exceptions to murder, he's still fine with the death penalty. Last we checked, executioners are an exception to murder, so there's that.

Not long after making these statements in a place where anti-choice measures already have already led to a state with the worst maternity mortality rate in the developed world, Tony Tinderholt began receiving death threats, and was placed under the protection of the Texas Department of Public Safety. He will remain in office, presumably to continue pitching bills so extreme, they're patently unconstitutional for the next year and a half, at least.

This is why Sanders is doing more harm than good

The Democrats’ Existential Crisis Won’t Resolve Itself

There are no downsides to Ossoff’s over-performance for any faction of the party. Just as in last week’s special House election in Kansas, where we also witnessed a major swing in the Democrats’ direction, his unexpected support hints at a Trump-driven combination of Democratic mobilization and Republican drop-off that’s large enough to portend major gains for Democrats in the 2018 midterms—if the dynamic persists for the next year and a half.

Developments like these not only bolster voter mobilization efforts—they suggest the party can compete credibly in all kinds of districts without rummaging through talent-scout books looking for Blue Dog–types who will force the party’s agenda to the right.

This backdrop explains why Democrats were taken aback this week when Senator Bernie Sanders—in the midst of a nationwide speaking tour with Tom Perez, chair of the Democratic National Committee—questioned Ossoff’s political merits. Asked by The Wall Street Journal whether Ossoff was a progressive, Sanders said, “I don’t know.” The Washington Post got a more categorical quote: “He’s not a progressive.”

If you want to see resistance in action take a look at Venezuela.

Maybe one of the reason Sanders said he didnt know if Ossof was a progressive was because Ossof is not interested in labeling himself as progressive.

"I'm simply not interested in ideological labels or purity tests. I'll tell you where I stand on the issues, and then I'll let the pundits decide how to label me," Ossoff said during an interview on CNN.

He's running a campaign is a very Red district. If he labeled himself, the chances of getting any Republicans to vote for him would be slim. If Sanders had nothing nice to say, he shouldn't have said anything at all.

My district is similar in many ways to his. If I ever decide to run for office [who knows?], I'd have to do something similar. It makes sense.
