I was on the ground in front of Phoenix St. Mary's Church. The clergy and I were baffled. Cops never gave any warning, no one was throwing a thing at the PD from the protester's side, and they fired out a tear gas canister without any warning. The explosion caused a panic, which is not what you want to do to a crowd of thousands.

Personally, I think it was fired without an order, because no protocol was fired.

Well if this is determined to be the case at-large I'm sad to say I doubt anything will truly be done about it. We'll see if anything comes out to corroborate the claims of protesters starting things, but I was fairly sure this was going to be how things turned out from the beginning so I think they'll have their stories straight - but who knows with this administration. Trump could tweet about how he ordered the code red and we can't handle the truth for all I know.

    Things went down like this:

    1) Nearly two hours before the tear gas hit, the cops gave an announcement about not throwing things. Two police officers were posted on each level of the 2nd Street and Monroe garage, on the corner to keep people back.
    2) Two hours later, at the corner of 2nd Street and Monroe, they fired a tear gas canister, shocking the hell out of everyone, including some cops that didn't have their gas masks on (I was half a block south when this happened).
    3) People on the upper levels of the 2nd Street and Monroe parking garage responded to the tear gas being fired by throwing things (which is why cops aren't supposed to escalate with tear gas).

I have friends on the Phoenix PD, including one of the hero cops who tackled the attempted mass shooter at Phoenix Comicon this year. And I'm gonna ask him when I see him if someone got their ass chewed out for what went down tonight, because that was completely unwarranted for what was up until that point, a peaceful protest.

Cops are now claiming they were 'pelted with bottles and rocks'.

I'm not gonna pretend I'm the leader of the resistance or anything. I was there to give first aid to anyone who came to me needing it with some others. Sadly, the hell broke loose on the opposite block away from us, and the cops forced the crowd away from where any medical attention could be given. I hope that's a coincidence.

It's one thing to contradict the eyewitness accounts, or video footage of the incident. If they'd like to also call the pastors and other clergy of St. Mary's liars, well, that's a whole other animal.

BTW, there's also footage where one protester kicked a tear gas can away, and the Phoenix PD responded by directly shooting that protester with a second tear gas canister. As far as I know, he was lucky only to get bruised ribs.

But, y'know, they were being responsible cops out there, right. Not directly aiming tear gas cans at people for giggles when it can kill someone.

Not that it's a definitive source, but I glanced at Twitter and didn't see any reports on this incident. I hope the news talks to people like you, WBE, in order to get the full and correct story. Not simply rely on Police accounts.

On this date in 2014, 2015, as well as 2016, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of Maine Governor Paul LePage, who in our original write-up, we noted was a was elected in 2010 after he made the campaign promise to “make Obama’s life a living hell”, but instead seems to have only enacted that promise upon the people of Maine. When he’s not threatening to blow up local newspapers or call in airstrikes against them, he’s meeting with a society of 9/11 Truthers and joked about hanging Democratic members of the state legislature. This is a man so heartless that he’s advocated for child labor laws to be changed so children as young as twelve can be put into the workforce, and so insane he once warned that microwaving plastics could result in hormonal changes in children increasing their estrogen levels and making them grow little beards (really). LePage has also told the heads of the local NAACP they could “kiss his butt”, referred to the IRS as “the new Gestapo”, and accused the Majority Leader of the Maine State Senate of “giving it to the people without providing Vaseline”.

And, in bour second profile on Paul LePage again proved interesting, as he provided us with new things to talk about like trying to illegally quarantine a nurse who returned from Africa after helping stop the Ebola Virus outbreak there, and then turned around to blame illegal immigrants for spreading HIV, Hepatitis C, and tuberculosis without any foundation in reality, at all. LePage then made a promise to “veto everything that crosses his desk” and wasn’t joking, vetoing 100 bills consecutively, if they did not have veto-proof majorities without any consideration for their content. At the end of that streak, LePage hosted the media at a press conference with a squeaky toy of a pig, and standing in front of a Christmas tree, promising to veto hundreds of things in the state budget passed by the Maine state legislature. The legislature, in turn, passed the budget with a veto-proof majority, so he couldn’t do a thing about it, except continue embarrassing himself. Which, his bold "veto everything" stance became even more hilarious when LePage forgot how vetoing bills works, and left for vacation without properly vetoing 65 that were hitting his desk that he had said he would block the Democratic legislature from passing. The catch was, he only had a certain number of days to veto them, and after the deadline passed, all 65 laws went into effect. Governor LePage also visited a local school, saying he’d like to shoot a newspaper’s editorial cartoonist. He told the joke… to the cartoonist’s father. Oh, and there was all the talk of Paul LePage getting impeached, after he threatened to cut funding to a school in the state because they had offered a high-paying job to a political rival of LePage’s, House Speaker Mark Eves. When a reporter, Paul Merrill asked LePage about it, he was actually stupid enough to brag about it. Even many Maine Republicans were participating in impeachment talk, after that. LePage even took the time to write a petty letter back to a constituent who asked him to resign in July, and told her “all of Southern Maine is corrupt”(yes, half the state) and “not going to happen”. Three weeks later, he just offered to leave office if enough people wrote to ask him to, and claimed that only four people had asked him to.

Paul LePage continued to be one of the craziest, if not THE craziest governor in the United States and in our third update, we had to bring up moments like how he tried to illegally block the relocation of Syrian refugees into his state by the federal government, laying on plenty of Islamophobic fear-mongering, even invoking 9/11 as his reasons against it, and warning that immigrants from there could bring “hepatitis C, tuberculosis, AIDS, HIV” and “the ‘ziki fly'” (which isn’t actually a real insect). LePage also got really racist while trying to play up fears of drug dealers, warning of “guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty” who wouldn’t just come to sell heroin, but “half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave." (After a few days, he admitted that he was referring to African Americans, but that it wasn’t harmful because Maine is “95 per cent white”.) LePage’s rhetoric about drug dealers at least stopped being racist, but no less insane, as he called for public executions for drug dealers. By guillotine! Well, that and he advised the citizens of Maine to help combat the drug trade by becoming gun-toting vigilantes and to “Load up and get rid of the drug dealers.” Paul LePage also endorsed Donald Trump for president, and started questioning whether or not Sen. Ted Cruz was eligible to be president (making him a Birther, two-fold). LePage even botched an attempt to humanize himself, effectively “cutting in line” at an adoption center ahead of the general public to adopt a dog a day rather than leave it for its intended adopter, a sexual assault victim who had been waiting for the day the dog could be adopted to take in as an emotional support dog. The shelter admitted it broke its own rules for LePage (and considering his history of holding petty grudges when he doesn't get his way, it's sort of easy to understand why). LePage also refused to support keeping the drug naloxone readily available in hospitals and emergency services to treat overdoses, by citing an example of a high school student who had overdosed on three separate occasions with naloxone only to keep on using drugs to prove it doesn't help do anything but allow addicts to continue using drugs, undeterred. Over the course of the next few weeks, after the school said he made up the story of the student, and yet he continued to insist it had happened. State officials soon also came forward to contradict LePage, and prove he made it up, and LePage never could name the mystery student addicted to heroin who came back from the dead three times.

And of course, the past calendar year has not seen Gov. LePage calm down much:

Paul LePage has survived as governor only because the process of impeachment in Maine is designed to be nigh-impossible to pull off outside of flagrant criminal activity.

Sounds like somebody had an itchy trigger finger and jumped the gun. Not good, and you just KNOW right wingers and the talking heads on Faux News will have a field day, screaming how protestors turned violent, forcing the cops to launch tear gas. I'm glad you made it through okay, WBE.

Here Are The Wildest Moments From Trump’s Wild Arizona Rally

There were a lot. Yeah, a lot of crazy ass shit. This was what concerned me most as a government worker....

    3. He suggested he’d shut down the government if it meant he could get a wall built along the U.S.-Mexico border.

“If we have to shut down that government, we’re building that wall,” Trump said. “One way or another, we’re going to get that wall.”
    More fun stuff....

    6. He lied and said cameras at the rally were being turned off as live-streams of the speech on cable news networks continued to roll. He specifically called out CNN, which aired Trump’s speech until the end.
Gee whiz! Trump lied? What a shock!

    10. He slammed both Republican Arizona senators: Jeff Flake, who has recently spoken out against Trump, and John McCain, who cast a pivotal vote that caused the GOP’s Obamacare repeal bill to flame out in the Senate in July. McCain is currently receiving treatment for brain cancer.
Yeah, Cheeto Jesus took a potshot at someone fighting cancer. Real classy. I want to hear the Trump supporters/apologists on this board defend that vulgar move. Meanwhile, Trump's ravings led to these opinions....

H.R. McMaster Showed Trump Photo Of Afghan Women In Miniskirts To Escalate War

After speaking with his generals, Trump is poised to send more troops to Afghanistan. Sweet baby Jesus. This just gets crazier by the moment.

President Donald Trump was reluctant to send more troops to Afghanistan after years of saying the war was “wasting our money.” So national security adviser H.R. McMaster used a 1972 photo of Afghan women in miniskirts to show the president that the country had once adopted Western values and to convince him to escalate the war, according to The Washington Post.

McMaster reportedly showed Trump a black-and-white snapshot of bare-legged women in Kabul to illustrate that the region might be able to embrace Western ideals again. Miniskirts were replaced by full-body burqas in the mid-1990s, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan, banned Western clothing and rolled back women’s rights. The Taliban now controls only parts of the country, but many Afghan women still choose to wear traditional burqas because it makes them feel safer from violence and judgment in a society where gender-based violence is rampant.
The miniskirt photo reportedly was not the only reason Trump decided to escalate the war, but the anecdote failed to surprise anyone familiar with Trump’s long history of objectifying women.

From Jamil Smith on Twitter: "This is creepy, considering Trump's history with women. But Afghanistan wasn't worth the fight unless they could be culturally colonialized?"

and this from Mr. Smith: "Afghani women in miniskirts isn't alarming. They should be free to dress as they wish. It's that McMaster knew that tactic would sway Trump."

No surprise there. Someone had to take the blame for two ship collisions and nearly a dozen lives (so far) lost.

They ALWAYS claim that. It happened here in Portland at the May Day march this year. They showed up in riot gear before the march even started, they walked through the crowd, in their gear, weapons out and ready like they were soldiers, making their intimidating presence known. They carried their firearms at the ready, even during the rally before the parade. And when they heard the ACAB chant and got their waddle feelings hurt, when they heard us shouting "Who do you protect!? Who do you serve!?" when the police presence got thicker and more militaristic, when they sawere ONE dollar store smoke pellet that was dropped in front of someone on the sidewalk confronting an antifa member and getting physical, they didn't come to the aid of the person being assaulted. No. They decided that Pepsi bottles lobbed at their armored bodies and shielded selves in response to their blatant intimidation tactics was more important. So they declared we had used 'molotovs' or some other 'credible' threat and went for chemical and concussion weapons. I guess we should count ourselves lucky that they no longer can get away with just firing BULLETS into a crowd, or fire hoses, or police dogs, like they did at Kent State and other protests, back in the day...

As if rocks and bottles of Pepsi thrown at cops itching for a fight while they wear their riot gear makes it ok to break out that kind of weapons against a crowd of unarmed, unarmored people. At May Day, we had elderly, disabled, and children, as well as veterans, and the cops indiscriminately fired dispersal weapons into the crowd anyway. They claimed our permit was revoked because of 'molotovs' (which, again, was bullshit, unless a dollar store smoke pellet counts as a molotov now...), but neglected to tell the leaders and organizers at the front of the parade. Instead, they announced it to the BACK of the parade, where our Antifa contingent was. Said Antifa members then dispersed quickly into the crowd, spread the word, and moved back into the rear of the parade, to engage the cops using the standard tactics of setting fires and breaking windows, to make the cops turn and deal with them, instead of continuing their assault on unarmed civilians. When I and my party left the parking garage, the streets of Portland looked like a war zone, full of tear gas and heavily armed and armored policemen chasing black-clad college kids while brandishing their firearms. As it turns out, the Portland Police had sent out a tweet to local businesses BEFORE THE parade, warning of possible chemical engagement, so said businesses would do well to close windows and not vent air from outside. Before they told ANY of us that such a thing might happen. The media won't show you the parade goers marching together, singing in solidarity. That isn't convenient to the narrative of antifa - and protesters in general - being hateful, violent anarchists. They'll just show the kerfuffle, nothing about what provoked it. This will end up the same way...

Cops are a HUGE part of the problem. Always have been. And yet, they seem to expect that we should respect them, just because they have badges and guns. If there are any actually HONORABLE cops in the lot, they should speak up, but they won't. Protecting their brothers in blue comes before protecting and serving the public. When you turn on your own class to protect the interests of the wealthy, you have lost the respect of the people.

    ACAB.

The far Left protesters routinely do this, so I have no reason to doubt it. I've also seen footage of them attacking people leaving the Trump rally for no other reason than they could and had superior numbers.

You might be one of those people who think that Antifa are brave heroes who fight for peace with violence.

He was part of a destructive riot that refused an order to disperse, was assembling (and committing crimes) while wearing a mask, and assaulted police officers with a weapon. What the hell did he expect to happen?
