I think it was more or less confirmed. During the story arc of when they moved to L.A. and Reptil was kidnapped by his future self, future Finesse seemed to confirm that Taskmaster was her father.

It was implied, and her future self shared the memory loss issues that Taskmaster was said to have as well, and when she was powered up with her own future knowledge, she was using martial arts moves from future folk, like the 'Sky Panther's Strike' or whatever.

I was hugely disappointed by that, as she had been introduced as a superhuman polymath, learning languages, electronics, spycraft, chemistry, musical instruments *and* fighting styles and gymnastics, and then sort of stealth-retconned into being only able to replicate fighting styles and physical stuff, to make her more like the Taskmaster. She went from being completely original, and with unlimited potential (including to be one of the rare, at the time, ladies to enter the 'top 10 geniuses' list, years before it was flooded with Riri, Nadia, Lunella, etc.), to a less-interesting version of the Taskmaster (which 616 already had one of, with Melee, from the Initiative, who Taskmaster expressed an interest in sparring with!). Ugh.

I wish we'd see more of Finesse, even if she's been massively downgraded from 'master of anything she studies' to 'Taskmaster 2.0.' I liked her practical streak, and how it made her a bit less innately heroic than some of her peers (like Reptil and Mettle), and perhaps a little too well-suited to slide into villainy, if not given a logical / practical argument to be on the side of the angels.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of Reptil and Striker, for that matter, or some of the Initiative kids (Komodo and Hardball, for instance, or some of the lesser seen people like Red Nine and Telemetry and Gorilla Girl), or some of the many cool teen mutants that have been mostly forgotten (Hellion, Dust, Indra, Loa, etc.).

Really, Marvel's just got way too many characters I'd like to see more of! It's pretty much the definition of an embarrassment of riches.

Maybe what we need is an Avengers version of Generation X/Wolverine and the X-Men - a book with maybe eight or so regulars and a lot of others appearing as and when the plot calls for it. But they'd have to call it something other than Avengers Academy due to the mobile game.

In case you didn't already know....there were plenty of super-teens (and young adults) recently seen within the SECRET EMPIRE FCBD Issue and let's hope that there'll be other super-teens spotted within SE: UPRISING #1; besides the ones who joined the Black Widow in helping her to take down HYDRA.

Implied and seemingly confirmed by a future version of 616 Finesse that 616 Taskmaster is her father? So not really a confirmation which means subject to change, yes?

Marvel has a ton of teen heroes that are just being ignored. In addition to Champions, I would like a Young Avengers and New Warriors ongoing. I know these teams may seem redundant in theme and/or function but I just happen to really like these heroes/concepts.

I'm glad that Runaways is returning. I really hope the new series can live up to the older issues. I also hope the show does well too.

I don't think that would be redundant. From what I've seen of New Warriors & Young Avengers they generally deal with normal superhero drama with a few tweaks here & there for certain runs (TV stars for the former or Road trip for the ladder) Where as Champions is about a brat pack throwing a fit because of a stupid event & thinking they're oh so better being "woke" & trying (& failing) to deal with grounded problems & lame Millennial villains.

A renewed Young Avengers title would be a godsend
    • Wiccan
    • Hulkling
    • Speed
    • Stinger
    • Spider-Girl (Anya Corazon)
    • Patriot (now renamed Nomad and with a new suit)

I've also been waiting to see numerous teen heroes like Hazmat, Cloud 9, Gravity etc. to make a comeback. I'm not sure where the best place for them is, but its odd that such characters are entirely absent from the MU

    Nice line-up.

I agree that a new YA's title would be great. A few solo titles would be nice as well.

A YA would be welcome, indeed.
I'd rather take a roster with the members that got the short end of the stick, plus a couple of new members:

    Prodigy
    Stinger
    Patriot
    Speed
    Renascence
    Striker

YA Patriot is off limits, and has been written out. The new Patriot is basically a Champions reserve (just a phone call away says Zub - he could be a replacement if someone else leaves the team). So if YA returns, it probably won't have a Patriot. Prodigy has turned up in New Mutants: Dead Souls. I've never even heard of Renascence.

I think this lineup is more likely:

    Stinger
    America
    Speed
    Wiccan
    Hulkling
    Striker
    Spider-Girl
    Hazmat

I agree with you that Striker would be a good addition, and think Hazmat should return somewhere too. Anya Corazon needs somewhere to go as well, hence why I included her. The other five are from the previous two teams. Stinger and Spider-Girl probably need YA, because their powers effectively make them ineligible for the Champions (too similar to Nadia and Miles). They'd be similar to DC's Titans, with Champions being the counterpart of the Teen Titans.

It took three tries to Google her, because my spelling is for the ****, but it's a newish identity for Sofia Mantega, the depowered mutant formerly known as Wind-Dancer. And I'd love to see her back (and re-powered), along with other teen-ish mutants of her generation, Dust, Hellion, Bling!, Loa and Elixir. (And some young mutants from other generations, like Goldballz and Evan 'Genesis' Sabah Nur and Nature Girl.)

I think this lineup is more likely:
    Stinger
    America
    Speed
    Wiccan
    Hulkling
    Striker
    Spider-Girl
    Hazmat
Yeah, some of those are likely to get another run, although all at the same time seems less likely, and a few, like Striker and Speed, might never be seen again.

Striker, Finesse and Reptil were my three favorite Avengers Academy kids, and I feel like they are unlikely to be seen again, save as event fodder (those characters shown only to be killed off, which may or may not already be the case for all three of the male students, Mettle, Striker and Reptil...).

I'd definitely love to see Anya 'Spider-Girl' Corazon again. (Or Silk, for that matter.) I feel like Spider-Gwen pretty much stole their niche.

I have no idea if she's a teenager or not, at this point, but I'd love to see Ava 'White Tiger' Ayala return as well, with powers.

Good point about Stinger and Spider-Girl needing their own place, away from Nadia and Miles. (I happen to like Cassie and Anya better than Nadia and Miles anyway, so I'd definitely be on-board for that!) Although a team full of Wasps and Spiders could be amusing for a one-shot, with Janet, Rita, Cassie and Nadia teaming up with Miles, Peter, Gwen, Cindy, Julia and Anya to 'bug' someone...

Well, Silk would definitely not belong on a teen team, she's meant to be around the same age as Peter Parker. I'd put her on a secondary adult Avengers squad (New, Mighty, or Uncanny).

Why did they stop making YA titles? Or did they just want New Avengers to hold all the young avengers?
DC: The Wildstorm: Michael Cray. Black Lightning: Cold Dead Hands, Justice League
Marvel: Iceman, Gen X, Falcon, Runaways, The Defenders
Other: Rat Queens, Motor Crush, Noble, Accell, Superb
