Well, while I don't want to spoil things I will say the above plot development is not simply squashed right away as it was in canon.

this was what, circa 1968-69? curly perms were a trend for a while in the mainstream culture.. no big deal.

And they tried to make Gwen more attractive but Stan Lee only succeeded in making Gwen into a clone of Mary Jane hahaha!

Maybe that's why they gave MJ that new do. They'd realised that giving Gwen bangs had effectively given the ladies the same hairstyle, the primary differences being the colour and Gwen's hairband.

Or it was an attempt to make Mary Jane less attractive and Gwen even more attractive.

    Venom 30th anniversary variant cover:

"I should describe my known nature as tripartite, my interests consisting of three parallel and disassociated groups; a) love of the strange and the fantastic, b) love of abstract truth and scientific logic, c) love of the ancient and the permanent. Sundry combinations of these strains will probably account for my...odd tastes, and eccentricities."
