Cool WOMEN OF MARVEL: Appreciation for all the heroines in comics (and behind the scenes)

I think we need a thread where we can discuss Marvel’s numerous (and AMAZING) female characters (and the various artist, writers, editors and inkers behind the scenes) in a safe environment -- so to be clear this is an APPRECIATION thread, if you are not appreciating then this is not the place for you. I'll try and keep it updated as best I can, with updates on all new female solo series, female lead comics, female heavy teams and comics writer and illustrated by women. I'll also add links to the appreciation threads of all the amazing Marvel women.

As with nearly all my threads, I've put a poll. HUGE apologies if your favourite was not in there, I'm limited to 15; so had to make a guess which 15 deserved their spot. I tried to pick across a broad spectrum, from appearances outside of comics, iconic status, major importance to 616, and lead solo females. If I had more room, I'd have added Arana, X-23 and Monica Rambeau... but I couldn't find room (apologies). Also... I discounted Mary Jane Watson (mostly because she's not really a "superhero").

Not that it means anything to you, or all the creators, or Marvel itself - but I noticed in those last 3 pics - it seems Sue is either the first/frontline person or co-frontline person in all 3.

    I can dig it.

She-Hulk graduated UCLA and Harvard which I think this qualifies her for the Still Incredibly Smart list .

Or X-Men: Worlds Apart mini which spotlighted Storm, also by Yost.

And the criminally overlooked Journey Into Mystery featuring Sif by Kathryn Immonen and Valerio Schiti, one of my favorite Marvel runs in recent times.

It was bad and no one really wants to remember it, but don't forget Elektra's first solo series, #1 to #19, by Milligan then Hama!

And if we're doing minis, Elektra:Assassin by miller 1 thru 8 and Dark Reign: Elektra by Wells 1 thru 5

I wish Invisible Woman has more focus and development, she has the potential to be great instead of just being Mrs. Reed Richards.

Marvel's track record with female characters is, by any measure, abysmally poor. Some of that can be attributed to the general difficulty that women have with gaining traction in mass media, but Marvel's history is littered with particularly shameful moments that place them a cut below the competition. Part of this is that whenever they do manage to stumble upon something good, they just can't seem to stop trying to throw it away. Case in point:

Despite being the star attraction during a run in which Marvel arguably reached its high water mark creatively, Phoenix spent practically the entirety of her brief 37 issue existence futilely fighting off attempts by her own creators to downplay, sideline, and eventually kill her. And Marvel has spent the last three decades trying to re-tell the same story, but with a male lead instead, witness the Dark Angel Saga, AvX, or the recent Quentin Quire storyline in WatXM.
