While I would not call it telepathy like most Telepaths use, it was indeed a mental super power, most likely very limited TP. Apparently he can get in the mind, know the surface thought or current thought and influence it.
Btw,thanks for that! Read that but kind of forgot they had mentioned it so when I got to another story with him doing something else- not gonna spoil it lol- was confused.

    Default The sinister sorcerers!

JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #3: On the cover in the left corner is a design close to the "bullet" logo they'd have for a long time. It says SUPERMAN at the top,NATIONAL COMICS at the bottom with DC in the middle. Only 10 cents!

We have a huge metal vault like door being opened by two large blue hands with claws!

Naturally, the JLA is trying to close it.

GL is blasting it with a blast from his power ring
WW has lassoed the door handle while standing on a tree branch- in bright red high heels
MM is slamming into it with his left shoulder- no super breath this time!
The Flash ,for some reason,is pole vaulting-you can see him using the pole-to kick into it with his feet
If you think Aquaman gets to top some of the silly things above-you win! He has one of the most realistic looking yet also awkward stance as he tries to pry one of the claws loose. He has bent knees as he's standing on one of the other claws.

The bottom text tells us it's:" " A STAR STUDDED SPECTACULAR! SECRET OF THE SINISTER SORCERERS!

The first page has the JLA logo at the top and the roll call at the bottom left: In order of appearance-Green Lantern,Wonder Woman,Flash,J'onn J'onzz,Aquaman,Batman,Superman
Etrigan the demon must have wrote the first couple of lines for text at the bottom right: Crime-fighters beyond compare! Foes of all evil, whether it comes from land, sea or air! (G.I. JOE?) It informs us that the team finds themselves on an Earth where it's a world of chaos (must be watching the world news) where nothing scientific works and only magic holds sway! So they must find Disneyland! ...wait,no,sorry,MAGIC-LAND!

All of the team are standing over a black cauldron with J'onn putting a pinch of something in it,Flash mutters he feels ridiculous trying to work magic like this as him and GL stir the stone soup,Aquaman says it has to be done as they've summoned up the greatest magician of all,Merlin! A vision of Merlin's head is shown with his familiar beard and Fantasia wizard's hat with stars and moons. Wonder Woman is standing there reading a book with the word SPELLS on the front. She got it from the same shop bank robbers get their bags with dollar signs on the front of them.

At the annual Magic Society Convention,Mandini the Mage performs a feat in Legerdemain (In Middle French, folks who were clever enough to fool others with fast-fingered illusions were described as "leger de main," literally "light of hand." English speakers condensed that phrase into a noun when they borrowed it in the 15th century and began using it as an alternative to the older "sleight of hand." (That term for dexterity or skill in using one's hands makes use of "sleight," an old word from Middle English that derives from an Old Norse word meaning "sly.") In more modern times, a feat of legerdemain can even be accomplished without using your hands, as in, for example "an impressive bit of financial legerdemain."

Here's the short version:1.sleight of hand; 2.skill of a stage magician
    trickery of any sort; 3.deceit

In honor of Green Lantern being a special guest Mandini decides to conjure a living being out of smoke! "Blue smoke...grey smoke...white smoke...Swirl! Fetch me now a living girl!" And it's...Princess Jasmine from Disney's ALADDIN! Or you could imagine a harem girl from one of those old Sinbad movies.

Mandini makes an exception for GL and decides to tell the secret of the magic trick. He reveals the hidden trap door in the floor. Unfortunately,it's locked and his assistant has misplaced the key. They wonder how he could have done the trick if the door was locked? Mandini muses it was like he did it with...are you ready?...real magic!

GL tries a light switch since they were turned off and the room was lit by candlelight but it doesn't work.

Um,why wasn't GL trying to pry the door open with his power ring? Maybe a crowbar? Power saw? Drill? Just sayin'!

Across the world every man-made machine stops working. Diana Prince's phone goes dead,Barry's Flash suit won't come out of his ring (so this affects science fiction too),John Jones and his partner's police car conks out,Aquaman listens to a grousing man whose boat motor has quit, nothing in Batman's utility belt works,Clark Kent can't send a story to the Daily Planet due to the downed telegraph wire and Snapper Carr isn't able to finish developing photos in a dark room for the school yearbook. The JLA members realize it's probably useless but hit their signal devices just in case to try and summon each other.

You are most welcome! Glad to help out!

I liked Original Owlman with the Super-Brain power. I think they deleted it in later iterations because he was supposed to be the Batman's evil E-3 version, and since Bats does not have that power, Owlman can't have it. Although he could, if it was caused by some E-3 reason, but no, nowadays, Owlman does not have that power. But he is equal to Batman in every way plus he has that great armor.

    On with the story...

At this moment,in another world Merlin the Magician is attempting a magical incantation:

    "Skin of frog
    And blood of bat
    Ear of dog
    And fur of cat
    Spirits of the astral plane
Send us now our springtime rain!

Nothing happens and the King of Magic-Land (so original) wants to know what went wrong as he's hired Merlin to stop a drought. Merlin doesn't have an answer. Merlin looks like what older readers might imagine,an old man with a long white beard and a stereotypical pointy wizard's hat adorned with stars and half moons. There's a crest of a half moon on top.

Suddenly, there's a strange and thunderous noise! The King wonders about the strange "horseless chariots" they see.

3 automobiles driven by individual henchmen ,1 has Simon Magus, the evil magician, the second, Saturna the Lord of misrule and finally The Troll King-his guys look more like dwarves because the car barely carries him let alone more trolls. Not sure what kind of troll they were going for but he looks like a pirate with a viking helmet.

    Merlin tries to banish them:

Begone foul spirits of the Nether Land!
By air and sun and the glory hand!

Again, nothing. Simon tells Merlin not to bother, thanks to them, magic doesn't work in that land anymore!

Simon Magus is kind enough to spell out exactly what they've done:

4 weeks ago on All Hallows Eve (Halloween) they performed a magical spell that put a golden doorway in the sky! A large, golden metal door sitting on clouds. They're flying on a magic carpet and the Troll King, being a properly prepared Boy Scout, realizes they'll need ropes to descend to the ground in the other land.

They end up in the "real world" where they use scientific law not magic lore. Secretly, they spend many days learning much about science and, upon returning to Magic-Land,discovered a spell to bring an automobile into their world. The spell was done by light of the full moon, with certain rare herbs and a pinch of Atlantean orichalcum.

Little bit of history info for you: Orichalcum or aurichalcum is a metal mentioned in several ancient writings, including the story of Atlantis in the Critias of Plato. Within the dialogue, Critias (460 – 403 BC) claims that orichalcum had been considered second only to gold in value and had been found and mined in many parts of Atlantis in ancient times, but that by Critias' own time orichalcum was known only by name.
Orichalcum may have been a noble metal such as platinum, as it was supposed to be mined, or one type of bronze or brass or possibly some other metal alloy. In 2015, metal ingots were found in an ancient shipwreck in Gela (Sicily), which were made of an alloy primarily consisting of copper, zinc and small percentages of nickel, lead, and iron.
In numismatics, orichalcum is the golden-colored bronze alloy used by the Roman Empire for their sestertius and dupondius coins.

    Okay,back to the spell:

    "Through space and time
    with reed and rhyme
    Let Baal proceed
    to serve our need!

They did spells like this many time until deciding on "the mightiest feat of black magic ever known!"

Simon is shown looking at a map and explains that geographically, the Earth is duplicate of Magic-Land! Their scheme is to transpose Earth into the magic dimension and,at the same time, send Magic-Land into the Science Dimension! (You know where there are aliens,super-powered beings, other magic users, etc. but it's the "science" dimension!)

They do another incantation ,of which each has a third, for a day and night summoning the fiends of the nether lands to do their bidding calling on their awesome powers!

Worlds in space you shall derange!
    Earth for Magic-Land exchange!

Their spell successful, magic doesn't work in Magic-Land only science! And vice versa.

The 3 villains start packing up a car trunk with treasures from (the former)Magic-Land: the goose that lays golden eggs, the flying horse Pegasus, fairy gold that disappears at dawn and then reappears and the sword,Excalibur!

Meanwhile, the JLA sit around in their hq in the dark since even matches don't work. Again,GL doesn't even try anything with his "magic wishing ring" like ...oh,I don't know ,some light.

Snapper says,"We'll be on cloud nine in a jiff,fellas--soon as our wick sticks get lit up!" As he rubs 2 sticks together to make a fire and it works as they make torches and put them on the walls. I'm guessing there's a difference between that and striking a match?

Btw,Superman is slouching in a chair with his legs stretched out and his hands under his chin. It just looks odd.

GL thinks he might have a clue as to what's going on and relates his experience at the magic show. And seeing as one of Supes' weaknesses is magic,WW decides it's worth investigating and should go to their library. Look, kids,BOOKS!

According to Wondy, all of earth's knowledge is stored away there. Seems kind of selfish. Snapper is carrying a dozen books and says,"Man,we ought to be able to jet up and go with this print mint to help size up the situation!"

Wonder Woman reads from a spell book:"Oil of Henbane! Powdered batwings! Cats' whiskers! the mummified foot of a frog!..."

    Henbane is a real thing:
Hyoscyamus niger, commonly known as henbane, black henbane or stinking nightshade, is a poisonous plant in the family Solanaceae. It was historically used in combination with other plants, such as mandrake, deadly nightshade, and datura as an anaesthetic potion, as well as for its psychoactive properties in "magic brews".These psychoactive properties include visual hallucinations and a sensation of flight.

As she reads each member tosses a crtain ingredient into the witches brew. Flash and GL both say they feel silly for doing this-says the guy who time travels and the guy with a magic wishing ring. (If any GL fans want to argue it's science because it's energy-go back and read these stories where he basically wishes for things to happen and it does!)

WW again:"Out of Earth and out of fire!
From air and sea and all things dire!
Produce for us a blue sapphire!

The spell is successful and now that they know magic works WW exclaims they should summon the greatest magician of all,Merlin! Wisdom of Athena, dont'cha know.

Another brew is made with Superman putting in cinquefoil: Cinquefoil means "five-leaved", from the French cinq feuilles ("five leaves") and ultimately the Latin quinquefolium. It can refer to:
Potentilla (typical cinquefoils), a plant genus in the rose family (Rosaceae)

Martian Manhunter puts in marmaritin leaves. If anyone knows what they might be,let us know!

The JLA successfully bring Merlin to their world and everything is gone over and with Merlin's help decide to cross over, recover from each evil baddie the third of their magical incantation that will revert things back to normal.

Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern will go after Saturna,Wonder Woman and The Flash after the Troll King with Superman,Batman and Aquaman fighting Simon Magus!

Merlin speaks in sepulchral tones and speaks the spell that sends the JLA to (the now former) Magic-Land! (Sepulchral:Relating to a grave or of death; funeral
Suggestive of a grave or of death; having a hollow and deep sound.)

"Fly East! Fly West! Fly South! Fly North!
Members of the Justice League--Go Forth!

With Snapper Carr being left behind,Merlin conjures a magic carpet and they set off to try and do some good with Snapper singing," Off we go...into the wild blue yonder..."

Now for Chapter 2! Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter having been thrown through time and space by Merlin's incantation find themselves before the secret hideout of Saturna,Lord of Misrule! Crashing through the bronze doors which guard his secret caverns in Magic-Land continent of Asgard, they burst into the lair of the fabled Manticore and Griffin!

Note:There was a map earlier showing Asgard was geographically the American continent while Olympia covers Russia and Africa.

Why do the manticore or griffin even exist now since magic is gone? Aren't they magical creatures? GL's ring works here too.

The manticore has a yellow body of a lion with a human guy's head with dark hair and a long, thin mustache. The griffin looks like a giant orange turkey with wings and has blue plumage underneath it and a blue mane.

GL tackles the yellow manticore that shoots blue needles from its tail. GL laments that its yellow body protects it from his power ring and if any of the blue needles scratches his skin it'll paralyze him. Guess he forgot how to make a force field. It would hold against BLUE needles. Why didn't he just swap animals with J'onn? Hal zaps the needles "popping" them, but then gets pinned to the wall by the manticore. Barely getting his ring hand out from its grip,GL bounces a verdant beam to ricochet off the wall, makes a hand construct and it smacks them across the cavern! The manticore takes the brunt of it cushioning GL's body.

At the same moment, the golden talons of the Griffin grasp the Martian Manhunter, lifting him upward. As J'onn tries to use his super-strength to free himself,a mighty pillar of red fire suddenly erupts from the cavern floor! (This is a volcano?) The griffin spirals around and around the flame weakening MM. But it gets to close to the ground,MM grabs some dirt and gravel tossing it in the eyes of the griffin. Momentarily blinded, the griffin flies wildly away from the fire and MM's strength returns and hurtles it outside and so far away J'onn figures him and GL will be done before it can get back.

As the flame pillar dies out,GL posits that it was a natural phenomenon occurring at regular intervals like the geysers at Yellowstone Park.

They find Saturna sheltered away further in the cavern manning a twin atomic cannon! Obviously, their spells brought them more than cars from Earth.

GL uses his power ring to turn the atomic projectiles into handcuffs.

Saturna is flinging his third of the magic formula into a brazier of hot coals. (Each one third is written down on paper) J'onn uses his super-breath to blow the paper to safety.

    Default Chapter 3!

The Flash and Wonder Woman encounter Troll Giants standing guard outside the Troll King's castle in Olympia! One of them snatches WW. No speed of Hermes for Diana? The Flash races around them so fast he makes a half dozen whirlwinds, makes them dizzy and topples them to the ground. Diana grabs up some vines to bind and secure them because she was into that stuff back then.

The Flash runs towards the castle gate but realizes too late that the portcullis (A gate in the form of a grating which is lowered into place at the entrance to a castle, fort, etc.) has been dropped into his path and crashes into it with a thud.

By the time WW reaches the castle a thought bubble from her informs us Flash was knocked out and dragged inside the castle. She uses her magic lasso (she's just using it like a regular lasso but should a MAGIC lasso work in the now NON Magic-Land?) throwing one end around a merlon (Any of the projections between the embrasures of a battlement) of the wallwalk and the other end to a tree trunk and then tightrope walks across it. While crossing she has to deflect bullets being shot at her by troll dwarves from tommy guns! Diana turns them into pretzel shapes. The guns not the dwarves. She herds them into a guardhouse as the Troll King shouts a challenge to her.

As the mighty maiden races down a flight of steps, the Troll King moves a lever and the steps flatten turning into a slide, then she falls through a trap door and falls into a stone dungeon where they've also put the Flash. Water starts flooding into it. Flash says he doesn't have enough room to gain momentum to plow through the walls and Diana doesn't think she could cut through the walls with her tiara before the water overcomes them! The sight of her using the tip of tiara on a stone wall is kind of funny.

Barry comes up with a scientific solution. Spinning his arms around and around super-fast he sets up a cold wave "...just as Niagara Falls freezes over when there's a sudden drop in temperature!,"chimes in WW.

Hoar-frost ( Dew-drops which have undergone deposition and frozen into ice crystals to form a white deposit on an exposed surface, when the air is cold and moist)forms on the pair as the temperature lowers beneath the freezing point. WW and Flash vibrate their feet so fast they break loose of the ice, gain footholds in the icy column that was made from the water rushing in and climb up the frozen waterfall. WW's fists smash through the ceiling. She can punch through a ceiling but not a wall?

Now outside, they see the Troll King trying to escape in a helicopter. Diana lassos him yanking him out and Flash catches the magic incantation.

    Default Chapter 4!

Superman,Batman and Aquaman are in the last continent of Magic-Land,Oceana to confront Simon Magus. They split up as Superman has chosen to hunt him down in his floating air castle,Batman to search him out in Forest Perilous and Aquaman to the sea.

If Superman knows where Simon is why do they need to split up at all? Couldn't he just scan with his telescopic and x-ray vision?

Anyway,Superman is caught by a powerful tornado cause by air sprites guarding the castle. (You get a castle! And you get a castle! Everyone gets a castle!)
Supey just twists out of it ,crashes through a castle wall and spots Simon on the throne. No,not that throne. Superman starts to weaken,Simon has carved his throne out of a meteor of Kryptonite! Unexpectedly,Superman lunges forward and grabs Simon then flies him outside telling him that the air sprites had created such a powerful whirlwind it propelled him along. That makes no sense. But,to Superman's astonishment,Simon Magus disappears!

Batman is running through the Forest Perilous unaware that the wood nymphs--the Dryads--are whispering orders to the trees themselves! (Sorry to keep harping on this but isn't magic not supposed to work now in this land?) Bruce informs us that Simon Magus often takes sanctuary deep in the heart of the woods. How would he know that? Maybe they met in a different story? Seems plausible.
Tree branches reach out and grab him but he reaches a capsule in his utility belt, snaps it into and a spray of powdered lead bursts into flame on contact with the air! The trees release him to try and beat out the flames as nothing is more dreaded in the forest than fire! And this is Science Land now, dangit!

Batman spots Simon, tries to tackle him but just like Superman comes up short as Simon disappears!

Aquaman is trying his hand at controlling the sea creatures of this new land and is so distracted gets caught in a fishing net. Oh,the irony. Even in the water they make Aquaman so weak he can't even tear himself out of a net.
Arthur thinks he saw remora fish that could help him.
The remoras , sometimes called suckerfish, are a family of ray-finned fish. They grow to 2.8 in–2 ft 5.5 in long. Their distinctive first dorsal fins take the form of a modified oval, sucker-like organ with slat-like structures that open and close to create suction and take a firm hold against the skin of larger marine animals. The disk is made up of stout, flexible membranes that can be raised and lowered to generate suction.[4] By sliding backward, the remora can increase the suction, or it can release itself by swimming forward. Remoras sometimes attach to small boats. They can also attach to other organisms like sharks and turtles of any sort. They swim well on their own, with a sinuous, or curved, motion.
His mental orders ork and the remora capture Simon. This is indeed the real Simon Magus. Arthur tells him he'll have the fish loosen their grip enough for him to pull the lever that will free him from the net. Simon agree since, unlike Aquaman,he can't stay underwater forever! Then why'd he hide there!? Oh,we find out Simon only had 3 lives, first in the air, then the land and finally, the sea. And,of course, they get his drivers license. Or immigration papers. You know what I mean.

    Chapter 5!

The JLA has all 3 sorcerers captured and are ready to return to Earth via the golden doorway they found that the villains used earlier. However, there is a monstrous blue hand with yellow claws opening it! Naturally, the try to keep it from coming through and Batman, ever the detective,is puzzled as to how such a creature got on Earth?

The creature breaks through! Continuing to fight it,it speaks ,"Hey,fellas! Don't you know me? Ow! Owtch! Cut it out, will you?" They quickly realizes that it's Snapper Carr!

Snapper was fooling around with Merlin's wand and accidentally turned himself into this and came looking for them for help. I'd ask why he just didn't tell Merlin and ask for his help but it is Snapper.

Merlin ,obviously, uses a spell to change him back to normal:

    "Giant,giant, over all
    Shrink in size,
    Be not so tall!

Wondy hopes this teaches Snapper not to meddle i things he doesn't understand. Snapper:"That's a real hip quip,Wonder Woman. I know the score now,you bet!"

Merlin does the incantation to swap the lands back to their rightful places:

"Worlds in space you shall derange!
    Earth for Magic-land exchange!"

Merlin uses the golden doorway to return home promising to punish the 3 sorcerers as he closes the door. And that the incantation shall be kept secret by one of his most potent spells.

That night at the Carr home,Snapper offers to read Jimmy a "real" story from a book labeled "MAGIC TALES." Jimmy,"Aw,Snapper,I'm too old to believe there's really any such thing as magic!"

Guess that was Snapper's little brother? They didn't mention him the first time they showed his family. (shrug)
