Loved the moment, hated the art
"By force of will he turns his gaze upon the seething horror bellow us on the hillside.
Yes, he feels the icy touch of fear, but he is not cowed. He is Superman!"

That moment, and Clark's dialogue with Sam Lane right beforehand, has got to be in my top 5 favorite Superman moments ever. Its just so....it is absolutely Superman incarnate; doing the impossible without a touch of angst or doubt, with a grin on his face and a snarky remark downplaying the impossibility of it all, like the laws of the universe just dont matter......

You've perfectly summed up what I like of that scene and about Superman.

I was confused as to why Hitch drew a 1up mushroom on his belt, guess it came from Romita?

Clearly Clark needs an extra life. He was just trying to be prepared.

I am now imagining baby New-52 Kal-El riding Krypto, defeating monsters, like Yoshi and baby Mario.

In fact, I would read a comic with the adventures of toddler/kid New-52 Kal-El riding atop Krypto, Yoshi's Island style.

The idealistic social crusader is one of my favorite aspects of new 52 Superman.

    His cunning.

His willingness to protect those he loves even at the risk to himself.
