Another sneak peek of BP season 2 via Wilfredo Torres, featuring once again Shuri and Eden.

Obviously she has just as much reason as T'Challa for hating the guys guts. But also, the current version of Shuri is probably less likley to carry vibranium gear around than T'Challa. And her current magical (or whatever it is) powerset might be a more interesting match up against Klaws powers.
As you alluded to, how would Shuri's new power set counter Klaw's sound attacks and him being living sound? On paper, Shuri doesn't have an automatic defense like T'Challa has with his vibranium suit.
Speaking of which, what is Shuri's outfit made of? Being that she saw Wakanda before the vibranium meteor crashed, perhaps her outfit is made up of elements that were in Wakanda well before vibranium showed up. Another thing the BP books can touch on as time goes on.

Just read BP 12. Pretty good issue overall. My full thoughts on it can be found in this post: http://community.comicbookresources....=1#post2691263
As for Shuri herself, her portrayal was very good imho. That said, even I was somewhat surprised:
end of spoilers
When the elder made her rebuttal to T'Challa, saying that the Midnight Angels were the ones who saved them from bandits, she asked T'Challa if the MAs were supposed to "leave us to be raped and killed?"
Shuri replies that it was "...exactly what they were supposed to do," elaborating that no one person--man or woman--is above the nation, that her heart is to her oath ("The Golden City cannot fall"), and that the MAs and their group aren't the first Wakanda to engage in seemingly positive actions that can be harmful to the nation overall. She continues that every Wakandan is expected to live and die for the nation, and that is a small price to pay for "...what the nation has given us."
It's a harsh response, but when I thought about it, it's in character. Hell, if it were up to her, she probably would've served the MAs a harsher punishment than what T'Challa offered.
Shuri's convo with T'Challa was very good as well:
end of spoilers
Among other things, T'Challa mentions that he is not like T'Chaka or any of the previous panthers, thus he is no king. Shuri disagrees, saying that while he is not T'Chaka and no one will be Bashenga, he is the King right now and he should rule his way.
Much more to the convo, but I'm very pleased with it. Looking forward to season 2.
I was pleasantly surprised by Coates Shuri.
There was always a huge worry she would simply become Romanda v2.0.
But she is still Shuri. That attitude and "Wakanda first" attitude is still there 100%.
What she said was harsh as F but fully in character and very true. Shuri THE QUEEN I could see saying something like that. But interestingly enough, T'challa the SUPER HERO KING I couldn't.
Shuri almost became the "harsh fan voice" in the series. She was the one that threatened the MA first. She was the first one to actually acknowledge T'challa's greatness. And she was the one to call out that "No One Man" is also "No One Woman"
She basically called out the MA on their shit lol. And then Chang continued the verbal Ether started by T'challa, passed to Shuri, and then Chang just 8 miled Aneka.
I will be curious to see how her powers, mostly the "history" stuff is used in the future more than anything. And what the "Griot" title actually means int he grand scheme of things.
But, so far, Coates has written her quite well.
Agreed. What she said was harsh as F but fully in character and very true. Shuri THE QUEEN I could see saying something like that. But interestingly enough, T'challa the SUPER HERO KING I couldn't.
And it's about time someone did. I also consider it as a low key acknowledgement that a lot of the crazy stuff did happen during her reign as well.Shuri almost became the "harsh fan voice" in the series. She was the one that threatened the MA first. She was the first one to actually acknowledge T'challa's greatness. And she was the one to call out that "No One Man" is also "No One Woman"
Yup.She basically called out the MA on their shit lol. And then Chang continued the verbal Ether started by T'challa, passed to Shuri, and then Chang just 8 miled Aneka.
Looking forward to her new trajectory, including the history stuff and Griot title among other things.I will be curious to see how her powers, mostly the "history" stuff is used in the future more than anything. And what the "Griot" title actually means int he grand scheme of things.
But, so far, Coates has written her quite well.
Seriously, Coates should consider writing a Shuri book, he would do a great job on it.
Fair or not, T'Challa saying anything even remotely close to what Shuri said potentially could have made him look bad. Not that what was said is inherently wrong... but it needed to be said by someone other than him.
I think with Chang and Shuri you almost have non-evil version of Killmonger and M'Baku getting a progressive and traditional voice in the story, with T'Challa somewhere in between. The one thing they ALL have in common is they agree the MA acted like dumb @$$'s.
I enjoyed the new issue and I liked seeing Shuri comfort T'Challa. The talk between the two of them was great and I liked seeing them with Ramonda. I also think Shuri's message to T'Challa to be a "King of today" is what has T'Challa wanting to get back with Storm. I think he is done living by the standards of his ancestors and is going to see the woman he loves. Shuri is no joke and I liked that she put it bluntly that T'Chaka, Azzari, and Bashenga are dead men whose time has passed.
We are the Dora Milaje. We are the daughters of the 18 tribes of Wakanda. We are the teeth of the Panther God. Out of 10,000 years of sweat and bloodshed and battle are we born. We are the women of this ancient land. Deadliest of the species. And our time has come!
I think Coates hinted at a Shuri and Eden relationship in the letter page.
Make it happen , Captain.
