Default 20 Patriots, 5 Codenames: A Salute To Marvel's Red White & Blue Heroes

Nobody in the Marvel Universe shares their codenames quite like the heroes that rock the red, white, and blue.

The original patriot hero was The Shield

True about the Shield, but he's MLJ/Archie.

While's it's true that Marvel at one point intended Bradley to be the first Cap, they changed their mind and moved him a little further along in WW2 so Rogers remains the first.

American Eagle is an interesting case: while in main/616 timeline Jason Strongbow's the only American Eagle, the Squadron Supreme's James Dore Jr (Blue Eagle) also used that alias. It is fair to say however that being on a different Earth, it's unlikely in the extreme that Strongbow would have been aware of Dore's existence.

There's a third (chronologically second) Miss America, though she's made very few appearances; a member of the Pennsylvanian Initiative team The Liberteens.

I wish somebody did at least a mini featuring that team.

There was another guy running around in a Cap uniform. I can't remember his name, but he was in Priest/Sears Cap&Falcon series.

And isn't the Rikki Barnes Nomad dead now? Marvel likes to kill off its teen heroes.

Not so much moved him further along WW2 as moved him into canon. When Truth was a stand alone, not set in 616 series, Isaiah could be first, but part way through the series that idea, if it was intended, went out the window. Once he was in 616, there was no way to for him to be first, since he was clearly established as only enlisting after Pearl Harbor, by which time Steve was already working alongside the Invaders.

It'd be nice if CBR could correct the article, rather than perpetuating the misconception.

America Ferrerra should be brought in to play Ms. America Chavez; just bypass all the time/dimension travel stuff..

    Anti-Captain America.

But there's been a far few other Captain Americas - Roscoe Simons, an unidentified guy circa the Vietnam War, Dave Rickford, etc.

    1. Steve Rogers was the first Captain America.

    2. I liked Norman Osborn as the Iron Patriot, a great villain for both Avengers and SHIELD. Aso I don't get why Iron Patriot is on the Secret Avengers, a patriotic hero who was created to boost American morale on a team that is suppose to be a secret.

    3. Don't forget the American Panther lol

    4. Isn't there one alternate universe where Frank Castle decides to be Captain America?

Not to mention in the comic itself they have Bradley reading Cap's comic, and he mentions (paraphrasing, here) "Cap's comic came out more than a year ago". So besides Cap getting the SSS in 1941, and Bradley getting it in 1942, Bradley himself basically says Steve was first. Now with all that being said...the comic is really great, and it made a really great addition to the Captain America mythos.
I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.

Agreed, but the moment Ms America Chavez hit the scene, the odds of that dropped drastically. All said, I could be interested in Chavez taking over the Liberteens and trying to whip them into shape only to have to deal with her angry predecessor upset that someone not only usurped her codename but her team as well.

It truly is shameful that CBR could research every other character except MAC. I definitely preferred how Casey handled the character's voice. I can keep the lesbian angle. It's an interesting enough wrinkle.

I thought I was the only one who preferred Casey/Dragotta's take. While I'm somewhat okay with McKelvie's redesign, Gillen's retcons didn't exactly float my boat. Her initial presentation actually made her more unique compared to other Marvel female teens. I can't think of a one who had the attitude and swagger she did.

There was a previous 616 American Eagle (Lt. Col. James Fletcher).

Comic wise he may be the first but continuity wise the Revolutionary War Captain America i believe is the first.
